George Clooney reveals why wife Amal skipped his Broadway ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’ opening night

Good night, I’ll be home.

George Clooney has revealed why his wife, Amal, wasn’t at the premiere of his Broadway debut, “Good Night, and Good Luck” in NYC on Thursday.

Clooney, 63, told reporters that Amal, 47, wasn’t there because “she’s with the kids.”

He did not explain why the couple didn’t hire a babysitter, since that’s presumably what they did in the past when Amal has frequently attended various premieres and events with him.

The couple, who share 7-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, moved to New York temporarily to support George during his time in the show. He wrote and stars in the project, which is based off the 2005 movie of the same name.

Clooney also directed, co-wrote and starred in the movie, along with Robert Downey Jr., Frank Langella, Jeff Daniels, Patricia Clarkson and David Strathairn.

The story is about legendary journalist and news anchor Edward R. Murrow’s public clash with Senator Joseph McCarthy during the latter’s Communist hunting reign of terror in the 1950s. “Good night, and good luck” was his famous sign-off.

In the movie, Clooney played producer Fred W. Friendly.

In the play, he takes on the Murrow role, which earned Strathairn an Oscar nomination in 2006.

He’s flanked by well-known actors like Ilana Glazer (“Broad City”) and Clark Gregg (“The Avengers”), among others.

The Broadway premiere was a star-studded event, drawing the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan, Matthew Rhys, Jim Parsons and Kylie Minogue at the Winter Garden Theatre.

Julia Roberts also attended a preview of her good friend’s show on Tuesday. She sat directly in front of Anna Wintour with her husband, Danny Moder, and their son Henry, 17. Roberts, 57, and Clooney most recently reunited on-screen in 2022’s “Ticket to Paradise.”

“Julia and her family were whisked to their aisle seats just before the lights went down, so nobody had time to so much as say ‘hello,’” an eyewitness shared with The Post. “Even Anna Wintour didn’t get to talk to her.”

“Good Night, and Good Luck” is the movie star’s first play since 1986, when he starred in “Vicious,” a play about the life of Sid Vicious he did in Los Angeles and Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre.

The Post’s theater critic Johnny Oleksinski gave the show two stars. “The ‘Oceans 11’ actor’s time-capsule performance is assured, confident and occasionally aided by cameras and TV screens — tools he understands much better than proscenium arches,” he wrote. “He succeeds about as well as the beige script allows him to. Which is to say, as well as he allows himself to.”

In February, Clooney told Stephen Colbert that his family loves being in the Big Apple.

“I mean, come on, how do you not love this? It’s New York City.”

“Actually, a play is kind of a good schedule because you’re working at night,” he added. “You get to see the kids during the day, so it’s okay.”

“Good Night, and Good Luck” runs through June 8. Tickets are still available.
