Kermit the Frog delivers inspiring commencement remarks to University of Maryland graduates: ‘Stay connected to your dreams’

The world’s most famous — and articulate — amphibian had an inspiring message for University of Maryland’s graduating class of 2025.
“Stay connected to your dreams — no matter how big, no matter how impossible they seem,” Kermit the Frog said during the school commencement ceremony Thursday.
“The truth is — dreams are how we figure out where we want to go. And life is how we get there,” he continued during the “Kermencement,” as it was called on campus.
The legendary frog was tapped for the job in honor of his late “Muppets” creator Jim Henson, who is an alumnus of the college.
Kermit also delivered a heartwarming message to the graduates about the importance of friendship and staying true to yourself.
“It was Jim who shared with me the idea of finding your people,” the frog said of the puppeteer.
“He could always see the spark in someone … and he taught me what’s unique about you should always be shared. And that really stuck with me.
“Always keep your eyes open. Always be on the lookout for new friends you’ve just met.”
The muppet compared life to a film.
“Life’s like a movie. Write your own ending. Keep believing. Keep pretending. You’ve all done just what you set out to do. And you’re just getting started,” he told a cheering crowd before breaking out into singing “Rainbow Connection,” as graduates waved their hands in the air and moved to his signature song.
University of Maryland President Darryll J. Pines awarded Kermit a certificate “in appreciation of outstanding services to the state of Maryland” signed by Gov. Wes Moore.
“I know this is a moment that our students will never forget,” Pines said.”An honor and joy to celebrate our graduating class with KermitTheFrog!,” he later posted on X. “His message of finding community, taking leaps together and making connections was an inspiration to us all.”
