Michael Strahan shocked to discover his parents ate his childhood pet pig

Michael Strahan’s revealing a long-kept family secret.

The “Good Morning America” anchor, 53, who grew up with his parents Gene and Louise Strahan and five siblings, had a pet pig as a child — whose fate he found out about only a few years ago.

“I went to shoot with his parents before his father died because I wanted … to give him time with his parents, as one of [six] children where they just talked about him,” his former “GMA” co-anchor Sara Haines said during “The Weekend View” on Saturday about the sit-down.

During that TV segment, the journalist, 47, learned what happened to Strahan’s pet: “They shared with me that they ate the pig.”

“I come back and I’m giving Michael a hard time, as one would, and I joked about the pig,” Haines recalled, not realizing that her co-worker had no clue what actually happened.

“And he’s like, ‘What are you talking about?’ He didn’t know. He didn’t know ’cause they were all young.”

“He was like, ‘I had no idea.’ And he called his mom,” said Haines. “And I was like, ‘I didn’t mean to betray the family trust! I just thought you told him!’”

Strahan shared the heartbreaking news that his dad passed in 2020.

At the time, his “GMA” family gave a sweet shout-out to Gene on air.

“We wanted to take a moment to say our thoughts and our prayers are with our colleague Michael Strahan and his family,” his former co-host Amy Robach said.

“His father, Gene Willie Strahan Sr., is being laid to rest today. He was born in 1937 … the first of nine children to receive a high school diploma. Enlisting in the US Army in 1955, Gene rose to become a major and serve with the 82nd Airborne Division.”

She concluded the tribute by sharing a little about his personal life, noting, “Gene married wife Louise in 1957 and they spent 63 wonderful years together bringing up six children. To Michael, Louise and the entire Strahan family, we want you to know our hearts are with you today. We love you, Michael.”

The former athlete, meanwhile, celebrated his mom’s birthday in January.

“Happy Birthday to my favorite person …The funny, smart and witty Louise Strahan!! Mom i love you and hope you have the best day ever!” he wrote on Instagram. “I’m lucky to have you as my mom and love you endlessly! Your baby boy Michael.”

Strahan himself is dad to daughter Tanita, 33, and son Michael Jr., 31, with his first wife, Wanda Hutchins. He also has 20-year-old twin daughters, Isabella and Sophia, with his second ex-wife, Jean Muggli.

In 2016, the television star gushed to People magazine, “My kids give me strength. I love being with the kids. To me, it’s all about family, now more than anything.”

Last year, Strahan supported Isabella as she battled medulloblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer.

“She wasn’t eating much,” he recalled to People in January about the model, who is now cancer-free. “She was thin and tired and bald and all the things you hate to see your kid go through.”

But Strahan added that “her spirit was there.”

“One of the things she said, probably the hardest thing I had to hear was, ‘Dad I’ll do whatever. I want to live,’” he said. “I knew she wouldn’t quit. She was going to fight — and she did.”
