Cause of death for Ronald Fenty, Rihanna’s dad, revealed

The cause of death for Rihanna’s dad, Ronald Fenty, has been uncovered.
The 71-year-old died from cancer, pneumonia and several other illnesses, according to the death certificate obtained by TMZ, which also stated acute respiratory failure, pancreatic cancer and aspiration pneumonia, which is a bacterial lung infection.
Secondary causes listed include acute renal failure and acute tubular necrosis, which are linked to extensive kidney damage.
Fenty passed away in Los Angeles at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on May 30 with family by his side.
Last month, Page Six shared photos of Rihanna’s brother, Rajad, arriving at the hospital on May 28. Rihanna was believed to also be in the vehicle.
Along with the singer, 37, and Rajad, 29, Fenty and his ex-wife Monica Braithwaite — who divorced in 2002 — are also parents to son Rorrey, 35.
He had three additional children — daughters Samantha and Kandy and son Jamie — from previous relationships.
Rihanna, who is currently expecting her third child with A$AP Rocky, was born in Barbados to Fenty and Braithwaite in 1988. After her parents split, Rihanna moved to the United States.
Rihanna’s relationship with her dad had been a rocky one, having gone through periods of estrangement over the years. After she was assaulted by Chris Brown, her boyfriend at the time, in 2009, Fenty allegedly spoke to the press without Rihanna’s permission.
Years after the incident, Rihanna told Vogue during an interview that the situation was “really strange.”
“You grow up with your father, you know him, you are a part of him, for goodness’ sakes!” she exclaimed, per Billboard. “And then he does something so bizarre that I can’t begin to wrap my mind around it.”
In 2012, Rihanna sat down with Oprah Winfrey to talk about mending their fractured bond.
“I repaired my relationship with my dad,” she told Winfrey, 71. “I was so angry at him. I was just angry about a lot of things from my childhood and I couldn’t separate him as a husband from him as a father.”
The Fenty Beauty founder also shared that the reason her family “broke up” in the first place was due to her father’s addiction issues.
Rihanna explained that as years went on, she realized Fenty was “probably one of the best fathers in the world.”
“He taught me everything,” she admitted. “And as awful as he was to my mom at times, it didn’t compare to how great he was as a father. And I had to come to terms with that. And I was able to close that gap with him.”
But by 2019, the pair were at odds again after Rihanna sued Fenty for allegedly using her name for financial gain, false advertising, false designation of origin and invasion of privacy.
In the lawsuit, Rihanna alleged that her dad and his business partner “egregiously and fraudulently misrepresented to third parties and the public” that their talent company, Fenty Entertainment, was affiliated with her.
She also claimed they “used these lies in a fraudulent effort to solicit millions of dollars from unsuspecting third parties in exchange for the false promise that they were authorized to act on Rihanna’s behalf and/or that Rihanna would perform at various locations throughout the world.”
However, in 2021, before the father and daughter were due to face off in court, Rihanna filed to dismiss the lawsuit, reported the BBC at the time.
Despite their complicated dynamic, a source told Daily Mail after Fenty’s death, that Rihanna “has had a very difficult relationship with her father over the years but his death has hit her like a ton of bricks.”
The insider said, “As much as you realize that something like this is occurring, it is still completely heartbreaking and that is where she is right now.”
They added that Rihanna, who is also mom to RZA, 3, and Riot, 1, “has forgiven her father and, in death, they got back to a loving father and daughter relationship.”
